Bonita’s Comrades Marathon Roadshow:
January 20 – The Comrades Marathon Association will be hosting a Bonita’s Comrades Marathon Roadshow at Newcastle Senior Primary School from 9 am.
Registered dietitians, coaches and top athletes will be there to help aspiring athletes and roadrunners to prepare for the upcoming Comrades Marathon, as well as other road races, by focusing on developing training programs and dietary needs in preparation for road races.

Wakkerstroom Music Festival:
March 16 – 18 – The Wakkerstroom Music Festival will celebrate its 9th season in 2018.
Located in scenic Wakkerstrooom, Mpumalanga, and surrounded by the stunning nature of the Drakensberg Mountains, the festival offers high-class concerts in a harmonious and intimate atmosphere.
The festival features baroque, chamber, and piano music, as well as classic–jazz crossovers, and this season will present 40 concerts with a scope of professional as well as superb young and upcoming artists.
Under the theme In Tune with Nature, the festival will be a showcase of nature inspired classical music.
The programme will be available from end of January 2018 and ticket sales will open middle February 2018.

Grey Goose Park Run:
The Grey Goose Game Lodge Park Runs takes place at the lodge every Saturday from 8am.
This exciting 5km, times run is open to anyone and is free of charge.

A Buffet breakfast will be sold at R65 per adult and R32.50 per child under 12 after each run.

Universal Yoga and Meditation Outdoor Sessions:
An outdoor Yoga and Meditation session is held every Sunday morning from 6am to 7am at the gym park at Crawford Road.
The aim of the session is to unite body, mind and soul with nature. The sessions will be conducted by Guru Sri Sarveson and will be free of charge to all those interested; men, women, young and old.
All you need is a yoga mat and comfortable attire.
New Age of Newcastle (NAON):
All NAON members are invited to attend a workshop every Thursday from 10am to 3pm. Free sewing classes are offered.
A hot lunch will be served to all NAON members. Advice on legal and health matters will be given.

The Ramakrishna Centre of SA Newcastle Sub-Centre to celebrate Swami Vivekananda
January 14 – The Ramakrishna Centre of SA Newcastle Sub-Centre will be celebrating Swami Vivekananda Birth Anniversary from 9.30am at the Green Street Ashram.
His Holiness Sri Swami Sumanasanandaji Maharaj – President of the Ramakrishna Centre of SA will deliver a discourse.
All are invited.

Sat-Chit-Ananda Temple Society
January 20 – The temple will host Pt Chunelall Narine of New York, founder and spiritual leader of Shri Trimurti Bhavan Inc at the temple from 5pm to 7pm.
Pt Narine is an internationally recognised and respected motivational speaker, author, singer, Hindu missionary and United Nations Peace Award Winner.
Join us as we quench our thirst for God’s realisation through a programme of Bhakti Sangeet which will take you blissfully closer to the feet of the Lord.

The Newcastle Siva Subramanian Temple to celebrate Thaipoosam Kavady:
January 22 to February 4 – The Newcastle Siva Subramanian Temple will be observing the Thaipoosam Kavady celebration.
The Kavady celebration will be observed as follows:
– The Flag Hoisting ceremony will be conducted on Monday, January 22, commencing at 5.30pm.
– Thirukalyanam will be celebrated on Saturday, January 27, commencing at 4pm.
– The Thai Poosam Kavady will be conducted on Wednesday, January 31, commencing at 2pm and the public Kavady will be hosted on Sunday, February 4, commencing at 6am. Obayams will be conducted daily.

Ramakrishna Hinduism for Children Programme:
The Ramakrishna Newcastle Sub-Centre conducts the Hinduism for Children’s Educational Programme on Thursdays, from 3.30pm to 4.30pm at the centre.
The programme encompasses pre-school to matric classes, during which different aspects of Hinduism, including the Ramayana and the Bhagavad Gita are discussed. Transport is provided for the children and a light snack is served. We encourage all parents to send their children to these educational classes and to ensure that their children attend regularly. Hindi Pracharni Sabha (HPS):
Members of the community are invited to satsang on Tuesdays from 6pm to 7pm. Ramayan recital classes are held every Sunday from 9am to 10.30am.
