THE past weekend saw Kilian Academy play host to Tiaan Swart, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) instructor from Tapout Academy, Klerksdorp.

Swart, a purple belt in BJJ, was invited by Kilian Academy to share his knowledge of BJJ and MMA.
The seminar was based upon the basic techniques and tactics of BJJ and MMA.

Abrie Kilian, head instructor at Kilian Academy, stated that the Academy aims to provide its students with quality exposure to instructors and techniques from across South Africa and the globe.

“In addition to quality exposure, we aim to stay true to the character of an academy, being academic and technical at BJJ. Smart and dangerous.” said Kilian.

Swart stated that Kilian Academy, in his opinion, is currently the leading BJJ facility in South Africa and that what the academy has achieved and contributed to South African BJJ in a year, is almost unthinkable.

“Apart from grace, we attest our growth and development to our students’ discipline and passion,” said Kilian.

Kilian, fresh from his visit to the United States a few weeks ago, was awarded his blue belt in BJJ by world renowned instructor Roy Dean, adding to his existing two black belts in Karate and Kickboxing.

Highlights of Kilian’s demo can be viewed on youtube.com under the title Roy Dean Kilian Blue.
