Vryheid’s first team took to the field in new jerseys and high spirits against the strong Newcastle first team in the finals, in a thrilling match that kept the fans on the edges of their seats from start to finish.

Although Vryheid gave their all, and stood a good chance of beating Newcastle after a brilliant season thus far, under excellent leadership and growing support from the spectators, Vryheid’s hopes of victory were dashed and the final whistle was blown with the score standing at 17 – 24 in Newcastle’s favour.

Although we lost the match, we certainly won the crowd, thanks to the efforts of Head Coach, Rich Verster and his dedicated committee, who arranged an event well worth attending as far as entertainment goes.

The dazzling Leandri Small got the crowd on their feet, singing the national anthem before the start of the main match, as well as a few other well known hits.

Willie Birkenstock warmed up the stage with some golden oldies for good measure and local band, Black Whiskey closed the evening with a brilliant show.
