Cyclists awarded for braving the distance

Cash prizes were up for grabs for the winners in each division, which motivated sportsmen and women to pedal their way to victory.

SUNNY RIDGE – Cyclists competed in the the Checkers and The Pines Cycle Challenge on Sunday, May 21.

The 20km and 100 km race started at the Pines at 6.30amon on the road from Newcastle to Utrecht.

Cash prizes were up for grabs for the winners in each division, which motivated sportsmen and women to pedal their way to victory.

After the race, cycling enthusiasts gathered at the Pines where they were acknowledged and rewarded for their efforts.

The winners in their respective divisions were:

20km

Boys under-11:

– Asar Khan

Boys u/13:

– Milan Cilliers

– Nathan Hattingh.

Girls u/13:

– Mikayla Saville.

Boys u/15:

– Lungelo Mlotshwa (3rd)

– Siphesihle Mbongwa (2nd)

– Ndabenhle Madonsela (1st).

Boys u/17:

– James Lycett

– Buhlebemvelo Mbatha

– Alvin Bronkhorst

100km

Elite under-23:

– Johan Harmse

– Roedolf Pretorius

– Sammy Steyn

Junior Men’s Division:

– Bevan Reddy

– Wessel Swanepoel

– Andrew Edwards

Ladies 100km:

– Linda Grabe

– Jo Claasen

– Julie Lee

Veteran 30 – 39 years:

– Mouritz du Plessis

– Deno van Heerden

– Mike Viljoen

Veterans 40 – 49 years:
