GALLERY: Lions host fun run for diabetes awareness

"We have sent a child previously to the camp, and we would like to ensure more Newcastle children have the opportunity this year."

Raising awareness about diabetes, the Lions Club International hosted a fun walk and run on Sunday, November 26.

The event started at New Active Gym, where participants registered for either a five kilometre walk/run or a 10km run/walk. Cyclists were also welcome to participate.

The funds raised through the awareness initiative will go towards the Lions Club, furthering its quest for a healthy and informed community.

“The Roaring Lions Children Camp will be held next year March, and Lions are raising funds to send children with Type 1 diabetes to the camp,” said Lions Club member, Nicolette Baney.

Baney explained the camp was open to children between the ages of seven and 14 years, and would teach them how to deal with their sugar levels and diet.

What made the camp special, was the Lions Club would cover the costs of the children at the camp.
