Newcastle Wheelers Cycling Club reward cyclists for efforts

In the Mountain Bike Division, Conray Ras won platinum, with Gavin Holder taking gold and Kevin Haycroft clinching silver. Chantell Joubert secured herself a bronze position, as did Manie du Preez.

Newcastle Wheelers Cycling Club held its annual prize giving awards on Saturday night, December 2, at Vulintaba Country Estate.

The night’s proceedings saw South African professional cyclist, Carla Oberholzer, give a brief talk about her professional career, including her participation in the 2016 UCI Road World Championships.

“I shared the challenges women faced in the cycling world, as well as the challenges I faced in my career,” she said.

After her presentation, cyclists from the club were awarded trophies and certificates for their efforts during 2017.

In the Mountain Bike Division, Conray Ras won platinum, with Gavin Holder taking gold and Kevin Haycroft clinching silver. Chantell Joubert secured herself a bronze position, as did Manie du Preez.

Riaan Kritzinger took the award as the Most Improved Cyclist of the Year.

In the Road Cycling Division, Pieter de Bruyn was awarded with a platinum award and of Most Improved Cyclist of the Year award, while Michelle Swanepoel obtained gold.

Willie Rouwenhorst secured silver, with Gavin Holder and Ansie Smith both taking bronze.
