GALLERY: Sat-Chit-Ananda celebrate the colourful festival of Holi
It is best known around the world for the powder that revellers throw on each other, leaving festival-goers coated in colour by the end of the day.
The Sat-Chit-Ananda Temple Society in Fernwood celebrated Holi from March 1 to March 3.
On the first day, the burning of the Holika effigy was conducted. For many traditions in Hinduism, Holi celebrated the death of Holika in order to save Prahlad in the city of Multan Pakistan, and thus Holi gets its name.
In the olden days, people would contribute a piece of wood or two for the Holika bonfire, which represented Holika killing her brother Hiranya Kashipu.
Holi, is a traditional Hindu festival and is celebrated at the beginning of spring, it represents the triumph of good over evil.
It is best known around the world for the powder that revellers throw on each other, leaving festival-goers coated in colour by the end of the day.
Saturday saw the conclusion of the three-day festival, where devotees of SCATS were seen throwing colourful powder and celebrating Holi.
