ANGLING: Breakwaters review the last angling season and prepare for the next

With the AGM firmly behind our back, the next season is eagerly awaited, as both squads have been reinforced with top guns joining the club and a formidable squad to choose their teams.

There is excitement and great expectations for the new season of the Angling Professional League for both Breakwaters and Stillwaters as it held a memorable AGM, prize giving and social event.

The title holders of the season 2017 to 2018 were honoured for their outstanding performance.

Monty Slabbert held the following titles: Heaviest Scaled Fish, KO Internal Singles Champion, Most Fish Caught, Champion of Champion, League Champion and KO Internal Doubles Champion paired with Iqbal Asraff.

Sikander Amod – Heaviest Non Scaled and Social Outing Champion – Non Scaled.

Anil Boodhoo – Heaviest Scaly.

Albert van Niekerk – Grand Challenge Champion.

Veruschka Boodhoo – Lady Angler of the Year.

Abhay Jawair – Junior Angler of the Year.

Iqbal Asraff – Senior Angler of the Year and

Kaveer Singh won the coveted Angler of the Year, Social Outing – Scaled, Highest Point Scorer and KO Champion.

Monty Slabbert and Kaveer Singh finished first and second respectively on the APL log with Monty Slabbert being crowned the APL ‘Angler of the Year’.

The executive committee for next season were elected as follows: Matthew Shunmugam at the helm as the President, Neville Pillay – Vice President, Nadir Chrisenduth – Secretary, Kidd Rampersadh – Treasurer, Kaveer Singh – Public Relations Officer, Ronnie Rampersadh – Record Clerk, Monty Slabbert – Captain and Ashvir Singh -Vice-Captain.

The manager of Stillwaters AC is Anil Boodhoo, Vishal Jawair – Captain, Nareeth Desai -Vice-Captain and Veruschka Boodhoo as the Record Clerk.

The season kicks-off with the Champion of Champions Competition at Sandford for both Breakwaters and Stillwaters on August 5.
