We have seven women from Newcastle, two from Glencoe, one from Dundee, one from Dannhauser, two from Ladysmith, one from Estcourt and two from Pietermaritzberg,” she added.

The finalists representing Newcastle are: Sumeshnee Ramkissoon (22), Akira Bipathram (18), Priyanka Chowthee (17), Kiara Kunju (18), Jaydine Moodley (17), Omishka Padaychee (18) and Eden Biggar (17).

In an interview with the finalists, they unanimously agreed that women needed to believe in themselves and love who they were, as each person was beautiful in their own way.

“It doesn’t matter how dark or light your skin is or whether you’re fat or thin, every woman is beautiful.”

These entrants will also showcase their talents at the pageant, emphasising cultural heritage and promoting the notion that beauty is not superficial.

“I want to wish all the lovely ladies well and make us proud. You are all my winners and remember the world is your oyster, embrace it,” said Ramdaas.
