Bikers put on a smoking hot show

Stunt teams including AJ Olivier and Deon Dreyer had supporters enraptured with many death defying tricks while on-site paramedics looked the other way.

Smoking tyres and insane stunts were just part of this year’s Balele Rally.

Now in its 17th year, the rally once again transformed Utrecht, and its Balele Resort, into a hotspot for stunt riders, mean machines and crowds of cheering supporters over three days.

“About 900 people attended and really enjoyed themselves,” says co-organiser, JJ Janeke.

The rally included live music performances, a mass ride, food and market stalls and tons of entertainment throughout.

This included pulse pounding drag racing events.

Janeke says IG van der Merwe won the racing event on a Hayabusa 1300, while the 1000cc class was won by AJ Olivier on his BMW 1000RR.

One of the biggest thrills was Saturday’s stunt show.

Stunt teams including AJ Olivier and Deon Dreyer had supporters enraptured with many death defying tricks while on-site paramedics looked the other way.

“We would like to thank all the sponsors who supported us this year.”

The Balele Rally is far from just frivolous fun, with proceeds this year benefiting SAVF Huis Joanna, Bergsig School, Die Utrecht Omgee Groep and Utrecht Nature Conversation.

“A big thank you to everyone who supported the rally. We hope to see you all next year at the 2020 Balele Rally!” concludes Janeke.
