Hundreds of karateka prepare for final round

This year, the NKZN JKA Region will be sending 144 competitors to represent KZN at the SA JKA Championships.

The Northern KwaZulu-Natal JKA Region held its first squad training session on Saturday in Newcastle, in preparation for the South African JKA National Championships.

This will be held on May 24 and 25, at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg.

Training commenced at 8am sharp, and consisted of kata and kumite, based on the criteria and rules applicable to the SA JKA Championships.

“The importance of training and an understanding of the rules and criteria cannot be ignored, and is of utmost importance for all team members and their sensei and coaches, to ensure the best performance from each and every karateka,” said NKZN JKA Sensei, Johan Swart.

The second training session will be held in Vryheid on May 11.
