Food for Life – Estcourt distributes over 1 000 hearty meals

The team relies on the generosity of the public to provide nourishing vegetarian meals at no cost

Since the inception of the Food for Life South Africa – Estcourt Branch, this past Sunday marked their 1125th meal served. So what better way to mark the occasion than to distribute a soulful serving of vegetable biryani and salad, juice and an extra treat of a packet of chips.

The Dukhi family sponsored 250 servings of Sunday lunch; the family joined the Estcourt Food for Life SA team in the Colita suburb known as Qonties. As the members made their way to the area, children began to run towards them and formed a line. With heart-warming smiles of gratitude on their faces, the children dug right in once they had received their meal.

“This feed is done in memory of my dad,” explained Deven Dukhi.

Food for Life South Africa – Estcourt Branch chairperson Shammy Buddhoo said: “We do a weekly sandwich feed at a local school, at which we use 16 loaves of bread a month. We also do meal preparation and distribution to various areas when locals make a donation.”

He went on to thank Stapletons for their generous donation of a two-plate gas cooker.

Mr Buddhoo added: “We hope to dish up another 1 000 nutritious meals with the help of the community.”

The Estcourt Food for Life SA team invites the public to help them carry out this act of kindness, which feeds hundreds of people. Assistance can be made in cash or kind (food items), or you can purchase the needed materials for the building of the Estcourt Food for Life SA Kitchen in Forderville.

For more information or to make a donation, contact Lokeshwar Das on 072-765-5733 or Mr Buddhoo on 078-075-1997.
Your contribution could make a big difference in the lives of many locals.
