Devotees gather in Dundee for Thaipoosam Kavady

The Kavady procession is seen as an outward demonstration of mass devotion to God as Lord Muruga.

Devotees from Dundee and surrounds gathered on Saturday to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Thaipoosam Kavady.

Prayers were conducted during the week leading up to Saturday, with devotees also observing a ten-day fast prior. On Saturday, a large crowd gathered to celebrate the holy day, walking from an empty plot in Peacevale to the Dundee Hindu Temple.

The Kavady procession is seen as an outward demonstration of mass devotion to God as Lord Muruga. There are various reasons for carrying Kavady but the two main are to express thanks to Lord Muruga or to ask for help overcoming a particular problem.
