The thrilling Sarel Cilliers Rugby Festival kicked off yesterday with teams from the host school doing battle against Amanzimtoti High and Felixton in various age groups.

A huge crowd was out for on a lovely summer’s evening to watch the Sarel Old Boys come up against a well-drilled Sentraal side.

Not even load shedding, that was foiled by a generator, could dampen the mood.

Dave and Sue Durham of Orange Grove – who sponsor the Festival – who were also in the stands, expressed their admiration to the Sarel Cilliers team for putting on show a spectacle of rugby that sees 36 games being played, representing teams from four Provinces.

Sarels under 16 put in a brave performance against Felixton even though they had to play 2 games in a row as Vaalpark could not field a under 16 team.

Sarel’s under 16 team beat Toti under 16s 50-5.

Des Johnson was the commentator never short for words.
