Hamilton chess star wins her section at KZN trials
Rajita Goel has now earned a place at the national tournament in December.
The final day of the school term ended on a high note for Hamilton College’s chess players, with Grade 9 learner Rajita Goel securing a place on the national stage after an outstanding performance at the KwaZulu-Natal Chess Trials.
Goel and fellow Hamilton College learner Ayabonga Mthethwa (Grade 10) travelled to Durban to compete in the two-day trials.
Dominating U/15 girls’ section
Goel produced a remarkable performance in the U/15 girls’ section, winning every game she played.
Her unbeaten run saw her finish first in her section, earning her the opportunity to represent KwaZulu-Natal at the Summer Games National Tournament in December.
This achievement is a significant milestone for the young chess player, who will now take her talents to the national stage.
From KZN to Nationals
With a perfect performance at the provincial trials behind her, Goel will now turn her attention to the Summer Games National Tournament, where she will compete against some of the country’s top young chess players.
Hamilton College congratulates her on this sterling achievement and wishes her well as she prepares for the national tournament.
