Karate ‘kids’ excel at regional championship

Vryheid JKA Karate Club got 31 gold medals, 19 silver and five bronze medals

The Northern KwaZulu-Natal JKA Karate Championships were held on May 13 at the Farmer’s Hall in Newcastle. There were 188 events with 173 karateka competing and a combined total of 326 entries from Newcastle, Dundee, Vryheid, Ladysmith, Piet Retief, Hluhluwe, Greytown and Volksrust.

Novice karateka who will place in the top four will be representing Natal and will be competing at the SA JKA National Championships which will be held in Johannesburg on July 28 while the Elite Karateka will be participating in the Africa Cup Tournament to be held in Johannesburg on July 29. The top Elite competitors participating on Saturday will be chosen to participate in the first Indo Pacific Cup 2023 which will be held in Mauritius from September 15-16.
