Local cyclists take on the heat in separate events

With the late rains, the roads are still very dry, making for dusty riding

The Utrecht Oppidamfees took place over the weekend and included a 55km mountain bike race. Congratulations to Vryheid’s Sandra Haywood and Loubser Theron, who both took third place on the podium in the ladies’ and men’s race respectively. It was a long and hot event, with a lot of steep uphill and technical downhill sections. With the late rains, the roads are still very dry, making for dusty riding. The temperatures on Saturday rose to 41 degrees during the race, also adding to the tough conditions.

Suzette Leach and Willem Richter took part in the Ladysmith Gravel Race over 50km. Suzette had an excellent race and took first place on the podium, finishing in two hours and one minute. Well done on your excellent race, Suzette, which also took place in hot and windy conditions.
