Municipalities battle it out at Mayoral Cup

The Mayoral Cup was graced with the presence of soccer scouts from different clubs

Zululand District Municipality (ZDM) held its Mayoral Cup on Saturday at the Cecil Emmet grounds.
This saw sportsmen and -women from all the municipalities falling under ZDM gathering at the sports field to take part in different sporting codes like netball, boxing, chess, soccer, athletics, karate, cricket and many others.
AbaQulusi Local Municipality went head-to-head with Ulundi Municipality in the soccer finals. No goals were scored by either team and the tightly contested game ended 0-0. The teams prepared themselves for a penalty shoot-out, which Ulundi Local Municipality won. The spectators went wild with excitement after a spectacle of top-class football action.
In other games, AbaQulusi took the number-one spot in chess. In boxing, cricket, netball for men, rugby and table tennis, they obtained second position.
Some of the participants will now play at the SALGA Games, representing Zululand District. The SALGA Games are set to take place in December in Durban.
The Mayoral Cup was graced with the presence of soccer scouts from different clubs, looking for talented players who might get an opportunity to play for big teams like Sundowns, Richards Bay FC, Sekhukhune United and many others.
