Vryheid Athletic Club rewards its runners at prize-giving

A new committee for 2025 was also elected

Vryheid Athletic Club (VAC) hosted their annual prize-giving on Saturday. Like all other previous events, it was once again enjoyed by the athletes and their families. The highlight of the evening was obviously announcing the winners in the different categories.

The following athletes received prizes:

Female Trail Athlete – Ronell Keeve

Midnight Runner – Hein Potgieter

Ladies’ Supporter – PJ du Toit

Club Supporter – Ingrid Klingenberg

Most Active Runner – Bongiwe Zulu

Comrades Surprise – Siyanda Mnube

Vasbyter of the Year – Ruzelle Grobbelaar

Nienaber Trophy – Mcebeseni Msezane

Most Improved Female Runner – Andrea de Beer

Most Improved Male Runner – Vlam de Beer

Novice Runner – Bianca Vosloo

Female Grandmaster (60+ age) – Cathy de Beer

Male Grandmaster (60+ age) – Mandla Mnisi

Female Master (50-59) – Paula Small

Male Master (50-59) – Jabulani Ndwandwe

Female Veteran (40-49) – Tholiwe Hlope

Male Veteran (40-49) – Simphiwe Buthelezi

Female Athlete of the Year – Jeanine Theron

Male Athlete of the Year – Mandla Mnisi

Worker of the Year – Paula Small

Chairman’s Award – Amanda Vergotinni

A new committee for 2025 was also elected, as follows: chairperson – Divan Grobbelaar; secretary – Adele Richter; treasurer – PJ du Toit; club captain – Amanda Vergottini; additional members – Simone Potgieter, Ane Theunissen, Carle Booyens, Simphewe Maseko and Christa Lombard.

The 2024 Ulundi Striders Half-Marathon took place on Sunday at the Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Regional Stadium in Ulundi. The distances included 10km and 21km races. A few VAC runners took part in the event and the results are as follows:

10km:

Simangele Mnguni – 45:30

Bongiwe Zulu – 01:03:34

Silindile Zungu – 01:19:31

Lindelwe Shongwe – 01:19:29

21km:

Mandla Mnisi – 01:39:44 (first place in his age category)

Michael Bhengu – 02:15:40
