Vryheid secures decisive win over long-standing rivals
Vryheid will travel to Piet Retief with a similar axe to grind against the log leaders.
Vryheid Rugby Club hosted Sentraal over the weekend. The team had not forgotten that they had a score to settle with Sentraal. The game started off badly, with Sentraal running in three quick tries without much resistance from the Vryheid team.
Then the ‘Rooikat’ came off the bench with 20 minutes remaining of the first half. Carl Holtzhausen, Vryheid’s veteran centre, ‘lit a fire’ defensively and offensively under the team.
By the end of the first half, Vryheid had brought the margin down to 21-26, with Sentraal leading. The few seniors lambasted the juniors. Carl carried hard and direct with his efforts, scoring a hat-trick of tries. Sentraal were unable to score any points in the second half, with Vryheid able to shut the visitors down to win the game 38-26. ‘Man of the Match’ awards went to Carl Holtzhausen and JD Jonker.
