Local soccer academy brings Bafana Bafana star to Ladysmith

Marks Maponyane expressed his satisfaction with the talent on display.

Excel Youth Academy hosted a three-day soccer camp in Ladysmith, bringing South African soccer legend and former Bafana Bafana player Marks Maponyane to town to work with young aspiring footballers.

The camp started on Wednesday (September 30) and will finish today (October 2) at the Ladysmith High School grounds.

Maponyane impressed by local talent

Maponyane has expressed satisfaction with what he has seen in Ladysmith, particularly the talent and potential among the young players attending the camp.

The former Bafana Bafana star shared his experience and knowledge with the youngsters, focusing on various technical aspects of the game.

Young players develop their skills

The camp covered several areas of the game, including finishing, passing, goalkeeping and other essential soccer skills. Maponyane was assisted by Ladysmith soccer legend Diyo Sibisi, who played for several clubs in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), including Ajax Cape Town and Maritzburg United.

Sibisi said he was hopeful that the camp would help identify talented young players who could potentially join Maponyane’s soccer school in Witbank, Mpumalanga.

Sibisi congratulates young players

Sibisi congratulated the young players on taking advantage of this opportunity – an opportunity he said his generation did not have.
