Update: Initial accident on N3 leads to three other accidents

The cause of the accident involving more than 20 cars on the N3 this morning is unclear at this stage. It is believed that there was an initial accident involving trucks and other motor vehicles, which led to three other accidents.

Emergency services are clearing up each accident scene, which are said to be kilometres apart.

Important notice for motorists: Due to the N3 accidents, the R103 at the army camp will be closed and traffic will be diverted towards Newcastle.
