BRUCE Lee once said, “The key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering.”
Sakkie Landsberg succeeded in doing so, living a full life from his birth in Swaziland on February 18, 1923, until his passing on January 8 at the ripe age of 92. Landsberg was a well known sporting hero in the South African Police Service, becoming the first Police Tennis Singles Champion three years in a row in 1957, 1958 and 1959. He also had great sporting success in the Doubles Championship, teaming up with Hansie Brewis and, at a later stage, Jakes Jacobs.
Landsberg tried his hand at Squash, Badminton and Golf, making great strides in these sports too.
He is remembered for his impeccable manners and courteous demeanour in all aspects of his sporting career and his life.
Landsberg is survived by his only son, Henry Bond ‘Bonnie’ Landsberg as well as three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
