Homeless on the streets

The number of vagrants roaming the streets of Vryheid seems to have increased during the course of the year.
Many community members have different views regarding these people who live on the streets and scavenge in rubbish bins for their food.
Although some of them are quiet harmless and go about their business without causing any trouble, others, like the vagrant that uses the collection alcove at the Post Office as his home, are nothing short of unpleasant.
This vagrant not only uses the collection alcove as his home, but also makes it his duty to make the place as terrible a sight as possible. Scattered papers, empty containers and occasionally the sight of human waste is the sight that most residents who visit the Post Office early in the mornings to collect their post have had to bear with since earlier on this year.
The Vryheid Herald received a complaint from a resident who says that she reported this issue to the Post Master but was told that if the police didn’t do anything about it, there was nothing that the staff at the Post Office could do.
All attempts to get comment from the Vryheid SAPS regarding the issue were futile.
