Vryheid Herald staff took some time out on Tuesday, October 8, to give egg sandwiches, boiled eggs and fruit to children at the Hlobane Child Care Centre to celebrate World Egg Day.
World Egg Day is a unique opportunity to help raise awareness of the benefits of eggs and is celebrated in countries all around the world
The International Egg Commission has proclaimed the second Friday in October as World Egg Day. Countries throughout the world join in the celebration of the egg every year.
To what does the egg owe this honour? Well, there are at least a dozen good reasons; from being one of the most versatile foods on the market to their high nutritional density, it’s not hard to see why eggs are one of the world’s best protein buys.
Staff members at the Hlobane Child Care Center were highly grateful for the wonderful food, which was handed out to all 180 children.
“Seeing the happy looks on the faces of these children makes all our hard work worthwhile,” said Happiness Mzileni who is one of the staff members at the center.
With cheery smiles and merry chatter, the children had an absolutely cracking time.
