Feel colourful on Bandanna Day
More than 400 Ferrum High School pupils have committed themselves to making a difference this Bandanna Day.
As a precursor to Bandanna Day celebrations tomorrow (October 12), Newcastillians have united behind a common purpose.
More than 400 pupils from Ferrum High School donned colourful bandannas as armbands, scarves, ties and more in a great show of support for the Sunflower Fund’s widely regarded project. Bandanna Day exists to raise funds for the Bone Marrow Registry, while supporting cancer patients who lose hair through chemotherapy.
School staff member, Niekie Burger said a total of 420 bandannas had been purchased by pupils and teachers, including 69 and 81 bandannas respectively in two classes. Ms Burger said the project was close to her heart, owing to the passing of her grandmother from cancer recently.
“Most of the children also know someone who has been affected by cancer,” she added.
Ncandu 86 Round Table’s efforts for Bandanna Day were equally successful, said member and businessman, Johan Pieters, who confirmed over 1 500 bandannas were sold by Friday (October 11). Bandannas can still be purchased at R25 from members of Ncandu 86.
“All funds raised from bandanna sales will go towards helping the Sunflower Fund increase the registry, thus saving the lives of patients suffering from blood disorders such as leukemia.”
