MMA fighters prepare for fight league

Come October 26, three fighters from Tiger/Crane MMA will be proving their worth in a cage at the African Fight League (AFL).

Ryno Kern, Davy Chuang and Waylon Kok are set to leave their mark as they prepare for the upcoming tournament.

According to their head coach, Frik Willemse, the AFL is the biggest amateur MMA fight league in KwaZulu-Natal. “Only the best get the opportunity to compete there.”

At the AFL, Ryno, Davy and Waylon will be assisted by Frik, their two assistant coaches, Johan Schoonveldt and Juan Truter, and their fighting assistant Emile Janse van Rensburg.

Johan explained as the assistant coach,  he said he would be doing a lot of conditioning and fitness with the three fighters.

“A lot of cardiovascular exercises are done to ensure their heart rate is up, thereby helping muscle growth and repair. I’m comfortable that they stand as good a chance as anyone else participating.”

Ryno Kern is excited about the upcoming event, as it will be the second time he will be climbing into a cage. “I’m still preparing, but I am going to do better. I know where I was lacking the first time around and now I am working on it.”

The upcoming AFL will be the first time Waylon climbs into a cage. “I’ve been doing MMA for five months now and I’m looking forward to it.”

The AFL will also be the first time Davy climbs into a cage to showcase his skill. “I’ve been doing MMA for three months and it will be the first time I’m climbing into a cage. I’m really excited about it.”
