Empowering through education
NHS pupils strive to make a difference in the community.
The pupils at staff at Newcastle High School (NHS) understand that education is really about improving the lives of others and leaving your community and the world better than you found it.
Undertaking to enrich the learning experience for the underprivileged, Grade 11 pupils sacrificed their lunch breaks every Friday to sell meals at school.
With the money they collected, they purchased stationery, books and teaching aids for the Sathya Sai School, which mainly services the informal settlement of Siyahlala-la.
Additional funds were used to treat Sathya Sai pupils to juices and chocolates.
“Service to mankind is service to humanity. This is the motto that NHS pupils strive to adhere to,” said NHS Head-boy of Culture, Abishek Bunwarie.
Management of the Sathya Sai School thanked NHS for their thoughtful generosity.
