Fishing firsts for husband and wife

Gavin then sunk his hook into “something big” that put up quite a fight until he eventually reeled it in and hoisted it onto dry land

Gavin Stephen and his wife Leeiona had a memorable day of fishing at the dam on Saturday, November 9.

They took the day off to go out to Spioenkop for some relaxation and hopefully a good catch or two. And they weren’t disappointed!

Leeiona landed her first barbel ever, weighing 1kg. Gavin then sunk his hook into “something big” that put up quite a fight until he eventually reeled it in and hoisted it onto dry land. It turned out to be a 2.79kg large mouth bass. This gave Gavin something to boast about too, as it was the first bass he had ever caught!

Interestingly, the bass was caught using pips and his wife’s secret blend as bait. This is unusual, as bass don’t feed on pips but rather on live bait and lures. Gavin commented that, “It was an experience of a lifetime that we both won’t forget!”
