Competitors queue up for overnight competition
Stillwaters Angling Club has put up prizes including R15 000, a lounge suite and various appliances at the competition.
Competitors are already camped outside the Chelmsford Dam, ahead of this weekend’s Stillwaters overnight competition.
Organisers believe these are just the first of more than 700 anglers who will test their fishing mettle.
Breakwaters’ Matthew Shunmugam said anglers from as far as Durban, Tzaneen and Pietermaritzburg have thrown their hats into the ring, all eager to battle for their share of R100 000 in top prizes.
In fact, organisers are insisting anglers book ahead of time to avoid disappointment.
“We have outlets in Newcastle so anglers will waste less time at the gates,” he explained.
Cllr Shunmugam urged competitors to purchase their tickets from Murchison Street Motors and Mohamed’s Midas.
Stillwaters Angling Club has put up prizes including R15 000, a lounge suite and various appliances at the competition, which takes place from Sandford to Zone E on November 30 and December 1.
Prizes will be awarded to the top five in both the ‘scaled’ and ‘non-scaled’ categories.
The format of the competition incorporates ‘skins’ in four different sessions, and fish caught during this competition also qualify anglers for many other prizes.
“This gives most competitors a reasonable chance of winning prizes throughout the competition.”
Anglers will pay R200 each excluding gate fees, with gates to open at 8am and the competition beginning at 10am, and the weigh-in to take place on December 1 at the Sandford camping site.
No observers are permitted, nor are free-standing trailers allowed.
