Unexpected Christmas cheer
Many of the children, who come from destitute families, had never experienced the excitement of unwrapping a Christmas gift before.
Nothing brings a sparkle of excitement to a child’s eye quite like having a Christmas gift being handed to him or her by Santa Claus himself.
The Christmas party thrown at Spur by members of Newcastle Community Crime Watch (NCCW) for the pupils who attend Peter Pan créche was an unanticipated joy.
Many of the children, who come from destitute families, had never experienced the excitement of unwrapping a Christmas gift before. Some, who encountered the big man in the unseasonable red coat for the first time, were a little weary of Santa, but quickly succumbed to the delirium brought on by a full tummy, fun activities, festive balloons, beautifully wrapped presents and the contentment in knowing that we live in a community of good people who really do care.
Principal of the créche, Jacky Shongwe, thanked members of NCCW for the outing and the thought that went into making each one of the children feel special just ahead of the festive season.
