Dog saved from crushing rocks
It is believed the dog may have wanted to seek shelter from a storm when it rushed in between rocks in the area.
A dog was found stuck under some rocks near the ‘100 Steps’ shortcut off Farquhar Road on Wednesday.
This after a call came in to the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) from a resident who lives about 1km away from where the dog was trapped.
The resident said she had heard a dog crying for a few days and wanted the league to come and see what was happening. AACL workers followed the sounds of the distressed pup to where the female Jack Russell was. It is believed the dog may have wanted to seek shelter from a storm when it rushed in between rocks in the area.
However, the gap was too small to fit through and its head got stuck in the hole. League officials tried to lift one of the rocks, but it was too heavy. Nearby construction workers were then summoned to help and it took three men to lift the rock in question. Annamarie Koen from the AACL then quickly got the dog out of danger’s way. Once in Annamarie’s safe hands, the little dog stopped shaking and crying and was taken to the vet. The vet checked her out and found that besides being in a state of shock, she was fine and luckily didn’t break any bones. The dog was taken to the kennels, where she was given food and water, and a much-needed bath!
