Top matriculant earns her stripes

Lauriksha Dhewlall achieved seven distinctions in her matric year.

With seven distinctions, Lauriksha Dhewlall has earned her place among the best of 2013’s crop of matrics.

Amid an overall decline in the matric results for the Amajuba District, Lauriksha was announced the top matriculant of St Oswald’s Secondary School after results were released on Tuesday morning.

Asked what her reaction was to the news, Lauriksha said she was mostly relieved.

“It was hard work but I am glad. It makes you grateful for what you have.”

Lauriksha earned top marks for English home language, Afrikaans first additional language, Mathematics, Life Orientation, Accounting, Biology and Physical Science.

With these results, she is set for studies in Industrial Engineering at the University of Pretoria.

“Hard work gets you everywhere. If you put in [the effort], you will reap the benefits of what you have sown.”

In general, St Oswald’s Secondary staff and management are chuffed with a matric pass rate of 94,36 per cent, above the district pass rate at a shade below 80 per cent.
