Dundee Secondary does well, despite bad publicity
They emphasised that this year they expect maximum discipline from both learners and educators.

Lungisani Andile Msimang was the top student from Dundee Secondary School, receiving three A and four B symbols. He was followed by Philasande Makhubo, who got an A in Maths.
Manelisi Ntshalitshali achieved three As and one B. Siyabonga Shabalala received three As in Accounting, Business Studies and Life Orientation.
The Dundee Secondary Class of 2013 did very well, despite bad publicity in the national media about the school a few months back. However, the school dropped in their results from last year, receiving a 72% pass rate for 2013 as compared with 79,3% in 2012.
School Principal Thulani Mahaye and the Chairperson of the Governing Body, TS Mkhize, said their school was the one with the highest number of enrolled Matric students. “Out of 206 learners, 157 passed. They told the Courier that on January 26 that they will be calling a parents’ meeting where they will discuss the 2014 strategic plan. “We will be dealing with extra classes as well as afternoon and holidays classes. Learners will be evaluated quarterly and top students will be awarded with certificates,” Mr Mahaye and Mr Mkhize added.
They emphasised that this year they expect maximum discipline from both learners and educators.
They warned learners and educators not to arrive late at school. Thalana High managed a huge improvement on last year’s results. They obtained a pass rate 69,2% for 2013, up from 52% in 2012. Only 63 students passed out of 93 Matric students.
Ethangeni received a 87% pass rate.
Ebusi Combined School also revealed an improvement in last year’s 58,9% to 76,9% this year. Eight of the highest achieving students received As in Life Orientation.
Five got As in Business Studies, three had As in English and the top student, Khumalo Mthethiseni, received an A for Maths.
