Tree crashes down across road

A tree branch crashed down and blocked a lane of Poort Road this morning (Monday).

The massive branch forced all traffic into one lane, creating several near misses as motorists rushing to work swerved to avoid the obstruction.

Public Safety were called to direct traffic.

The tree was safely removed by the Department of Parks & Gardens a short while later.

A motorist who narrowly escaped hitting the tree described how he only realised it was across the road at the last second. “I swerved and luckily nobody was in the lane next to me or I would have hit them,” said a still shaken Eugene Jonck.
