Offroad gauntlet laid down
Fancy yourself an offroad boffin? Prove it and win big!
A pioneering 4×4 event promises to give motorists a truly rocky start.
Coinciding with the Amajuba Game Festival on March 1, offroad enthusiasts will have the chance to tackle rough terrain along a three kilometre obstacle course near the Show Grounds.
This will incorporate 21 different vehicle-oriented challenges.
Organisers of the 4×4 challenge suggest competitors have at least a smidgen of dexterity in handling a vehicle off-road, promising they will be tested to the limit of their abilities.
A panel of qualified drivers will judge competitors on their ability behind the wheel.
As a reward, there are numerous fantastic prizes valued between R2 000 and R5 000, sponsored by, et al, Dragon Peaks, Acorn Cottages, Mountain Splendour and Mont-Aux-Sources.
More importantly, this event serves as a fundraising effort for Amajuba School.
“Our funds this year will go towards a bus and textbooks for the pupils,” explained organiser, Jolene Kotze.
Teams from numerous car dealerships around Newcastle have already thrown their hat in the ring, and the school invites residents in general to do the same.
Entry forms are available from Franle and Hutten Park pharmacies, Nissan, Chery and Amajuba School.
