Ward 2 residents must re-register

Residents are reminded that the last chance to register to vote for the 2014 general elections will be this weekend, February 8 and 9 between 8 am and 5 pm.

Residents of Ward 2 have been left in the dark regarding where they must register to vote.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has added two new voting stations in Ward 2, without properly notifying residents.

Bebsie Cronje, ward councillor for Ward 2, said that the sudden change comes very close to the final registration period for voters.

“The change means that residents who live in the areas allocated to the voting stations will have to re-register to vote,” said Cllr Cronjè. “If they do not, they will arrive at the old voting stations only to find that their names are not on the voters roll.”

The new stations have been added on the corner of Albatros and Loerie streets, and Ferrum High School. The demarcation to these voting stations have changed, so many residents of Ward 2 will have to re-register this weekend.

February 8 and 9 will be the last opportunity voters have to register and Cllr Cronjè has urged Ward 2 residents to SMS their street name and number to her, so that she may respond with the allocated voting station. She can be contacted on 073 941 1846.

“The other three voting stations in Ward 2 have not changed, however, it would be best if all residents sent me an SMS so that they can make sure that they go to the correct voting stations,” concluded Cllr Cronjè.

Residents are reminded that the last chance to register to vote for the 2014 general elections will be this weekend, February 8 and 9 between 8 am and 5 pm.
