Finding their peace with love

Growing up in the same neighbourhood, Val and Nasha Naidoo had no idea that love would sneak up on them and they would become husband and wife.

“We went to the same high school as well, but were together for eight months before we got married,” said Nasha.

Working as a financial advisor for an insurance institution, Nasha said that she and Val, who works for a construction company as a health and safety officer, met at the municipality one day when they had to do some work there.

It was at that moment they knew they were destined for each other.

“For me it was love at first sight. But getting to know him more, made him so special to me. He is bubbly and humorous and it made him more outstanding. His kindness and love each day make him more attractive,” explained Nasha,

Val said both Nasha’s inner and outer beauty captivated him immediately, putting his heart at peace. “Her fingers on my back calm me more than 10 cups of tea. Nasha and my mother get on like a house on fire and which man doesn’t want that?”

According to Nasha, Val’s proposal had caught her totally by surprise.

“One afternoon after work, he just rocked up at my house; it was love at first sight. Looking very serious and asked if I would marry him. I was taken by surprise, but obviously my answer was an unhesitating yes.”

Getting married last November, Val and Nasha opted for a small and intimate wedding with 50 guests attending, which was held at Grey Goose Farm Lodge.

The couple opted for electronic invites, as most of their guests were from out of town and they wanted to share the good news as soon as possible.

With a colour scheme of turquoise, white and silver, Val dressed in a black suit with a white waist coat and tie on the special day, while Nasha dressed in a traditional white dress, symbolising the purity of their love.

As a token of their love, they exchanged wedding rings; Val’s wedding ring was a gold ring with a diamond stone and Nasha’s a three piece gold wedding set.

At the reception, guests enjoyed a buffet of chicken and cheese macaroni, roast leg of lamb, vegetables and curry.

But the highlight of the reception was the cutting of the wedding cake which was a traditional three-layer fruitcake with white and turquoise icing and silver bows.

The guest souvenirs for the day were miniature three-layer cakes on a silver tray and a variety of chocolates.

“I had to go away on a work course to Durban for two weeks before the wedding, so most of the planning was done by my husband and mother-in-law. They did an excellent job,” explained Nasha.

After their special day, Val and Nasha spent the night at Grey Goose, before zooming off to Johannesburg for their honeymoon.

Settling down in Newcastle as husband and wife, Val and Nasha now welcome their exciting new adventure with open arms.

To Val, Nasha leaves a special message. “I love you with my whole heart and thank God every day for giving me a wonderful and caring husband. My only wish is to grow old in happiness with you. You have made my life complete and I promise that even when you are grey-haired, I will still love you as I do today.”

Also with love, Val too leaves his wife a special message. “You are my whole life and my best friend. I wanted you by my side for the rest of my life before we said ‘I do’. You make my whole day just by kissing me and smiling at me each morning. I love you. Keep smiling my sweetz.”
