Optometrist sponsors indoor soccer league
The Asmal’s Optometrist League sponsorship is to be competed for by teams in all divisions.
At a recent council meeting of indoor soccer, chairman Mr Mahomed Bhigjee announced that a new sponsor for the indoor league competition has been confirmed.
The sponsor is Mr Mahomed (King) Asmal and the competition is to be known as the Asmal Optometrist League.
Members present were absolutely delighted and, in appreciation, acknowledged this wonderful gesture with a round of applause.
The Asmal’s Optometrist League sponsorship is to be competed for by teams in all divisions.
A total of 38 teams with almost 400 players will participate in this competition.
The senior division has a total of 14 teams; seven in the Premier League; seven in the Challenge League; and 24 teams in the U/17, U/15, U/13 and U/10 junior divisions.
This timeous support generates a great deal of enthusiasm and teams are looking forward to giving of their best.
Mr King Asmal is the most senior participant in the Premier Division and has been an active player since the inception of indoor soccer. He has an impeccable sportsmanship record on and off the field.
As an administrator, he has gone out of his way to promote sports.
He was largely responsible for reviving cricket and served as the president of the Northern Districts Cricket Union.
He is an official of the Klip River District Football Association and continues to serve as a senior official of indoor soccer.
His support to various charitable, educational and sporting organisations is a clear indication of his commitment to give back to the community. Indoor soccer is indeed very grateful for his support and hopes that his practice grows from strength to strength.

Saturday, March 8 (Asmal Optometrist Junior League):
11.30am – Under 8 Division, 12pm – Under 10 Division, 1.30pm – Under 13 Division, 3.15pm – Under 15 Division.
