Vryheid parkrunners celebrate milestones and Women’s Month
Vryheid parkrun celebrates milestones, personal bests and strong performances during another successful Saturday event.
Saturday’s Vryheid parkrun was filled with milestones, personal bests and strong performances, with participants celebrating another successful morning on the course.
Three parkrunners reached their 25th milestone, while another celebrated an impressive 50th event. Congratulations went to Mamush, Alex and David on their milestone 25 events, and to Sipethelo Thabede on reaching 50 parkruns.
Participants who missed out on having a photo taken with their milestone flag can ask one of the finish-line volunteers to assist them at next weekend’s event.
Personal bests continue to roll in
There were also plenty of personal bests recorded on Saturday. Mamush, Smangele, Clevyle, Samuel, Kris, Charl, Zakhele, Simukelisiwe, Sonja, Mia, Amanda, Lwazi, Clair-Louise and John all recorded new personal best times.
The warmer weather appears to be encouraging more participants to get outside and put in extra training.
For those wanting more time on the parkrun course, or simply looking for familiar faces to run or walk with, the Wednesday Freedom Run/Walk takes place between 16:00 and 17:00. Participants are advised to keep an eye out for updates regarding gate opening times.
Winterton visitors bring hundreds of parkruns
Two visitors from Winterton also stood out among the weekend’s participants. Jacqueline, with 310 parkruns to her name, and Bill, with 311, were the two participants with the highest participation numbers at Saturday’s event.
Female runners shine during Women’s Month
Women’s Month was given another reason to celebrate, with five female finishers completing the course in under 30 minutes.
Minenhle finished in 22:55, followed by Smangele in 21:40, Tahlia in 25:14, Izelda in 26:03 and Ntando in 28:54.
The strong performances highlighted the continued progress among Vryheid’s female parkrunners and provided a fitting way to celebrate Women’s Month.
