Ntombi Kunene recently bought a packet of maize-meal at a local supermarket, only to discover a week after she had purchased the maize-meal that it was infested with worms.
Lucky for the Kunenes no one got sick from eating the maize-meal, including her three-year-old child, but unluckily Ntombi could not get her money back or be compensated with a new packet of maize-meal as she had no receipt to prove where she bought it.
She warns everyone who buys maize-meal to be careful, and check it before cooking. She also appeals to shop owners to check expiry dates, as well as keep their storerooms and shelves clean at all times.
