This election is about defending democracy, says ANC

He said voting in the upcoming elections is about defending this democracy, which has seen major improvements in the lives of black people.

KwaZulu-Natal ANC Chairman Senzo Mchunu, and ANC Bhambatha Regional Chairman James Mthethwa, joined members of Umkhonto WeSizwe Military Veterans’ Association in song during a mini-rally in Msinga over the weekend.
Mr Mchunu told gathered supporters it is important to remember those who stood against oppression, and to ensure that future generations know their contributions to building this country.
“The fight for liberation did not start yesterday, but started many decades ago when some individuals decided to stand up against colonial and later apartheid rule, where black people were treated as sub-human,” said Mr Mchunu.
He added it is important for communities to take ownership of the ANC’s legacy, and preserve it for future generations.
“It is this ANC that has been with you through many tough times, including the installation of a government system which was designed to ensure that black people are oppressed, through atrocities committed by apartheid forces when they massacred innocent people, right through to when former President Nelson Mandela walked out of prison into the presidency of this country,” said Mr Mchunu.
