Oom Trompie at it again
A burst water pipe in Boeren Street sent water flowing down the streets in the early hours of the morning on March 19.

It was either late in the evening or early in the morning, but at some stage between March 18 and 19, the asbestos water pipes in Boeren Street outside of Franca Marina Flats decided enough was enough after approximately 40 years. ‘Oom Trompie’ who was responsible for reinstating the water supply earlier in March, when the municipal strike was in its early stages and the water supply was sabotaged, was on the scene with some workers, replacing the brittle old asbestos pipes with new, longer lasting plastic pipes. According to Oom Trompie, the pipes had burst due to their age and the effect of the heavy rains which had preceded the burst placing too much pressure on them.
