Call for justice after 20-year-old man is fatally shot in Steadville

A protest march is planned for Thursday as a justice call for Banele Manyoni.

Police are investigating a case of murder after 20-year-old Banele Manyoni was fatally shot in the Tsakane area of Steadville on Sunday afternoon (August 30).

It is alleged that an altercation broke out between foreign nationals and members of the community, during which several gunshots were fired. Manyoni was later discovered with a fatal gunshot wound.

A man suspected of being responsible for the shooting was taken in for questioning, but was later released. No arrests have been reported at this stage.

Ladysmith detectives are appealing to anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward. Anyone with information can contact Sergeant Lamula on 082 411 7070.

Meanwhile, community organisation March and March have announced plans to stage a protest calling for justice for Manyoni.

According to the announcement, the protest is scheduled to begin at 09:00 on September 3.
