Tragic murder leaves family distraught
He left me in great agony as he was my only hope for a better life.
TRAGEDY struck at the Masondo household in the area of Ema300 when Nkosikhona Masondo, the eldest boy in the family, was found dead at the gate of his home on Saturday evening.
It is alleged that Nkosikhona and his brother Sicelo had left their home to go and buy cigarettes at a nearby shop when the tragic incident occurred.
When the two young men arrived at the shop, they bought the cigarettes and stayed a little while chatting to friends and neighbours who were also at the shop. The mood is said to have been ruined when a man, living just a house away from the shop, stepped out of his home and demanded that they tell him why they were dancing along to music that was playing at his house. Although he seemed very angry, the young people say that they took no notice of him as he is generally known to be a grumpy person.
The man is said to have went back to his house and returned with a knife. Without warning or an argument breaking out, he allegedly stabbed Nkosikhona in the stomach and fled the scene.
A severely hurt Nkosikhona made a run for his home but unfortunately only made it to the gate as the wounds were too severe and he was later on announced dead by paramedics.
The Masondo family was left distraught, as Nkosikhona’s death was so sudden.
“He left me in great agony as he was my only hope for a better life. I do not have a job and we have always struggled to make ends meet every month,” said Thandi Masondo, Nkosikhona’s mother.
“His body is currently at a government-mortuary and they said that we have to collect it by Wednesday. I don’t know what we will do then and I am even more worried about the funeral costs as I have no money at all,” said the crestfallen mother.

The suspect is said to have handed himself in at the Vryheid SAPS on Sunday, March 23.
