Raid reveals robbers had police uniforms
On searching the premises the officers uncovered two full sets of police uniform, including a police reflective jacket, a blue light, an assault rifle magazine, and cash (South African and Chinese currency was found as well as US dollars)
On Friday morning, March 28, a group of dedicated police officials from the Ladysmith SAPS set out to follow up on valuable information. Their aim was to apprehend armed robbers that are believed to be operating in Ladysmith. The group of Ladysmith SAPS members were comprised of members from the Crime Intelligence and Protection Services, Ladysmith K9, Ladysmith Cluster Trio Task Team as well as Ladysmith Detective Service.
The group were activated after Crime Intelligence members secured valuable information as to the possible whereabouts of the suspects. They swooped in on a house in C-Section Ezakheni where they found one suspect aged 39 years. On searching the premises the officers uncovered two full sets of police uniform, including a police reflective jacket, a blue light, an assault rifle magazine, and cash (South African and Chinese currency was found as well as US dollars). They also found air time and six cell phones.
The suspect has thus far been linked to at least three cases of business robbery in the CBD of Ladysmith. His accomplices are also being sought. The suspect is set to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He will face various robbery charges as well as impersonating a police officer.
