Domoina Lane: Angry traders say they are losing customers
The informal traders who complain that the dunes of sand and damaged pavements are making things very difficult for their informal businesses are now wishing that the program had not been introduced at all.
AS we are closing off yet another month informal traders in Domoina Lane and down Mason Street are starting to lose patience with the Rehabilitation Programme that was supposed to improve local economic development.
The informal traders who complain that the dunes of sand and damaged pavements are making things very difficult for their informal businesses are now wishing that the program had not been introduced at all.
“We were better off without it as our customers were able to reach us easily. Now that the piles of sand, stones and bricks have narrowed the road people are more reluctant to walk up Domoina lane especially as they share this small road with cars that deliver to the supermarkets and other businesses,” said a disgruntled informal trader.
According to these traders, very little work has been done around the area for the whole month and there is a rumour going around that the contractors were not paid and thus stopped working.
The municipality was contacted to comment regarding the issue but to no avail.
The Revitalisation Programme was officially launched in August last year and it was said that everything would be complete by the end of February 2014.
The end of February came and went, and we are now at the end of March yet there seems to be no light at the end of this tunnel.
