Impressive win for the Vryheid’s Rugby first team

VRYHEID Rugby Club played the first of its league matches on Saturday, April 5, kicking off with an impressive win against last year’s winners, Piet Retief.

Piet Retief brought a very strong side and put a lot of pressure on Vryheid by scoring a try in the first five minutes of the game.

Vryheid came back strong and led the rest of the game to end off with a winning score of 17-15.

Stand-out players of the day included first team scrumhalf, Andre Ellis, who kept the opposition guessing with good tactical kicking and strong attacking play from the base of the scrum. Welcome Steele and Coenie Bestbier, second team players, had a phenomenal game and are showing a lot of promise.

The next match will be played in Volksrust this weekend and it promises to be another nailbiting match as Volksrust is always strong on home turf.

Anyone who has been to Vryheid Rugby Club recently will notice the extraordinary renovations and improvements.
