ANC apologises for covering DA posters
The ANC hung huge posters over DA posters and have since apologised for doing so

The DA has lashed out at the ANC after they put up ANC posters in direct violation of municipal bylaws.
The ANC have put up huge PVC posters along the N11 near Van Riebeeck Park. They have deliberately covered DA posters, and it appears that they have tampered with IFP posters as well. The ANC posters have been hung with big metal clamps which are not allowed, as only cable ties are supposed to be used so as not to damage any of the poles.
A resident who wishes to remain anonymous said that when he drove along the road yesterday, he saw four men with a bakkie removing the DA posters, moving the IFP posters and putting up the big ANC posters.
In the Electoral Act 73 of 1988, Schedule 2, the code of conduct (part 9, 2D) says that: “No person may deface or unlawfully remove or destroy the billboards, placards, posters or any other election materials of a party or candidate”.
DA Member of Parliament Mr Alf Lees commented that, “The DA is horrified at the arrogance of the ANC in putting up these banners, apparently in violation of the bylaws by moving and covering posters of other political parties. The DA intends to lay criminal charges against the ANC.
“This arrogance of the ANC is typical, taking into account Zuma’s theft of public funds in the Nkandla scandal as determined by the Public Protector and court of law,” said Mr Lees.
ANC Regional Secretary Maphitha Sithole has commented, saying that, “We, as the ANC, are aware of the Act and are complying with it. We were not aware of these posters, as a private team from Pietermaritzburg was contracted to put them up. We would like to apologise to the DA and we have sent out a team to remove the posters.”
