Ezakheni homes get electricity
Community members were very happy, and could not hide their appreciation and excitement that Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality has given them homes and power
Mayor Vincent Madlala and other councillors were in Ezakheni E-Section on Friday, April 11, to launch 642 electricity meters at RDP houses.
The homes are being electrified and to add to the electricity in the houses, another 96 street poles were erected.
Mayor Madlala said he was proud to light up the houses. Community members were very happy, and could not hide their appreciation and excitement that Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality has given them homes and power.
Addressing the community, the mayor said, “The municipality made a commitment that it will ensure that all communities have electricity. I’m proud today of the fact that I am here to light up the houses, as people of the community now have electricity. The electrification programme is currently faced with a huge backlog in terms of advertising of tenders for experienced companies to be appointed. Furthermore, we are faced with the challenge of shortage of skills, especially technical skills, human resources and limited time to manage electrification projects. In light of the issues mentioned, our municipality is embarking on a process to provide a solution to fast-tracking service delivery and producing a good-quality product that is produced by qualified and experienced experts in the field, while knowledge transfer is taking place in the municipality.”
Council requests residents to take extra precautionary measures in using electricity. With a progressive service delivery approach, the municipality say they will continue to advance socio-economic transformation for the benefit of the communities they serve in celebrating 20 years of democracy. Working co-operatively with communities, council add that they will continue to be “Implementing Agents of Change” for a better society.
